Director Enterprise Architecture

Position Highlights:

  • The Director, Enterprise Architecture, and their team, is responsible for the creation, maintenance and management of IT architecture models and their lower-level components.
  • They are also required to interpret, use and apply information contained within IT architecture to inform a range of business improvement activities, particularly those involved in the design, development, enhancement and maintenance of IT systems.
  • The Director, Enterprise Architecture is the senior Architect leading a team of architects (directly and indirectly) to achieve the organization’s goals.
  • The primary role of the Director, Enterprise Architecture is to ensure that business, application, security, data and technology perspectives are in line with the organization's technology and governance strategies, policies and standards.
  • The Director, Enterprise Architecture will have direct oversight of the Technology Roadmap and be responsible that it is accurate, achievable and is implemented as new applications are rolled out as well as promoting the removal of applications that are duplicative or obsolete.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Participates in design sessions and working meetings to ensure decisions are in line with the overall strategy. roadmap and approved architecture design; collaborates with IT leaders on architectural designs.
  • Oversees the integration of new and existing systems to ensure compatibility and seamless operation across the organization.
  • Provide input into IT budgets, ensuring resources are allocated appropriately for architectural initiatives and projects.
  • Continually participates in education or training opportunities to stay up to date on industry trends.
  • Establishes policy and standards for enterprise applications.
  • Translates strategic vision into tactical projects.
  • Aligns and prioritizes efforts to ensure smooth deployments and incremental gains for the Center.
  • Continually adjusts roadmap based on changing landscape and trends.
  • Advises leadership on upcoming obstacles that need to be addressed.
  • Maintains comprehensive documentation of the enterprise architecture, including diagrams, policies & procedures.
  • Facilitates agenda creation and ensures all documentation are submitted Facilitates discussion at bi-weekly meetings; ensures proposed solutions align.
  • Manages standards exception list.
  • Drives discussion regarding new standard definitions Ultimately seeks approval from leadership when a project does not follow the roadmap or enterprise planned architecture.
  • Advises on all major technical decisions. Provides pros/cons on multiple approaches for each decision. Participates on various workgroups, committees, and other forums as needed.
  • Collaborate with vendors to evaluate and select technology solutions that align with the enterprise architecture. Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring the security and reliability of IT systems.
  • Partners with business and technology subject experts to translate business requirements into technological solutions design for IT projects to ensure proper -planning, business solution fit, and architectural fit of enterprise IT projects.
  • Supports enterprise solution decisions, working with teams to ensure that goals can be accomplished Supports, but doesn’t lead enterprise RFP development.
  • Understands application required maintenance, thinking through the full implementation of the application.
  • Ensures no new applications get approved or installed that have duplicative functionality in an existing application. Helps educate teams members to the cost to maintain duplicate applications, guiding them to the installed application.
  • Reviews the application portfolio annually and identifies opportunities to reduce duplicate applications. Successfully removes duplicate applications as agreed upon with Supervisor, and sunsets old data and applications.
  • Mentors and guides architects (both direct reports and others across the department) Job Specific Duties: Ensures Architects are following/implementing according to the proposed roadmap, strategy and design decisions. When in doubt provides guidance for correct path to follow.
  • Provides career growth path and educational opportunities for team members. Provides architects with expectations, opportunities for two-way communications, and understanding of mission and goals.

 

Credentials and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – field of study: IS, Business Admin, Technology
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in information technology and five (5) years working in an architecture function with some part of that as an Enterprise Architect or similar. Above experience must include a minimum five (5) years leadership experience as a manager, director or above.
