Department Description: The Mouse Biology Program (MBP) is an academic teaching, research, service center and shared resource at UC Davis established to develop, study, and conduct education and training in genetic manipulation of the laboratory mouse. The MBP consists of an interdisciplinary group of scientists, staff, and students from across the UC Davis campus organized under the administrative oversight of the Center for Comparative Medicine. The mission of the MBP is to develop, disseminate, and deliver mutant mouse technologies in the post-genomic era through the application of mouse genetics and biology in biomedical research. The MBP provides centralized and coordinated expertise in mouse biology "from concept through creation" by offering state-of-the-art laboratories, facilities, and services in an enriched environment for students, trainees, and investigators utilizing genetically-altered mice in research.

Job Summary: Under supervision, process orders for mutant mouse strains that are maintained as live mice, and/or frozen germplasm. Request cryo-recoveries by the Mouse Biology Program (MBP) laboratory staff through a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Project Tracking System (PTS). Act as liaison between customers and the MBP laboratory and vivarium units. Record and track shipments of live mice. Maintain communication with the customer, the laboratory, and the courier, providing status of cryo recovery, re-archiving and generation of mouse mutants, and ensuring timely and safe delivery of mice to the customer.
Physical Demands: Sit, stand, reach and lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Work in extreme temperature conditions with proper personal protective equipment, and climb steps attached to equipment.
Work Environment: Occasional overtime.
No smoking or eating in work area.
Employee shall participate in required preventative medical and medical monitoring programs. This position is subject to medical surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State laws and regulations and University Policy.
Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions; meet University requirements for general lab safety.

Minimum Qualifications: -Experience in a Customer Service role.
-Experience providing data and other communications by phone and email to laboratory staff and researchers.
-Experience using computers, database and work processing applications.
-Knowledge of the use of mutant mouse strains, mutant mouse strain nomenclature and techniques used to create mutant strains.
-Experience handling laboratory mice and knowledge of mouse husbandry.
-Skills to research multiple databases and interpret information.
-Experience in organizing data for reporting.
-Skills to pay strict attention to detail and coordinate multiple projects.
Preferred Qualifications: -Experience with shipping and receiving practices in compliance with laboratory and governmental policies and procedures for biological materials and laboratory mice.
-Experience handling dry ice and liquid nitrogen.
-Experience handling frozen ES cells, embryos and sperm.
-Experience in interpretation and analysis of genotyping results.
