Job Summary
The scope of responsibility for this position includes, but is not limited to, the configuration, deployment, testing, maintaining, monitoring and troubleshooting of infrastructure components to provide a secure, high performance network. The Infrastructure Administrator II is responsible for the design, deployment, daily operation and documentation of physical and logical networks, including cable plant and electronics. This position assists in monitoring and managing network performance and takes the lead in installing and maintaining specialized gear required for Wi-Fi coverage while assisting in monitoring and managing network performance.

Essential Functions
• Configure and deploy network switches, wireless controllers and access points, firewalls, and other network equipment to support the mission of the University.
• Evaluate, design, recommend, and implement solutions for monitoring of network health.
• Monitor network performance to maximize network uptime and perform packet-level troubleshooting of network traffic to identify and resolve network and application problems.
• Provide tier two and three support to the University in resolving problems with network connectivity.
• Triage network service requests under high stress, network-fault conditions.

Other Functions
• Maintain accurate and current work order records for all work performed.
• Ensure timely resolution of escalated issues if necessary during regular scheduled hours and after hours, as needed.
• Partner with other departments to identify opportunities for enhanced efficiency in strategic and tactical efforts.

Supervision Given/Received
• Reports to the Assistant Director, Infrastructure Operations.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 3 or more years of networking, data communication, telecommunication or equivalent experience or education, including familiarity with network traffic monitoring and analysis and with remote network management.
• Must be familiar with the concepts of repeating, bridging, switching, routing, firewall policies, VLAN’s, VPN’s, VoIP, real-time multimedia, hypertext, etc., in the Intranet environment.
• Excellent written and verbal skills; the ability to communicate logically in a detail- oriented, accurate and concise manner and to handle network crises on the fly.
• Excellent customer service attitude and ability to work in a team environment, including the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people, such as students, staff, and faculty.

Desired Qualifications
• Work experience in higher education.
• Knowledge of network testing, certification, and analysis equipment and procedures.
• Ethernet Networking — Familiarity with all currently used types of physical networking media, with particular emphasis on its architectural and in-service design parameters and limitations.
• Routing and Interoperability — Understand issues surrounding various routing protocols such as TCP/IPv4, and TCP/IPv6, as well as SAP, RIP, OPSF, RBGP, et cetera as implemented in each protocol version.
• Service Provision — Understand issues surrounding network services including file services, connection services, domain name services, DHCP services, authentication services, mail services, print services, backup services, multi-media services, and security services.

Physical Demands
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift 15 pounds regularly / 75 pounds occasionally – usually lifting to waist level, some occasional overhead lifting.
• Wrist and hand movements required as needed for keyboarding.
• Ability to handle simultaneous tasks while working in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work extended or varied hours as needed.
•Ability to be mobile campus wide for appropriate business needs
