Job Description

The Liu Lab in the Department of Neuro-Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to join the lab. The Liu focuses on the study of both primary and metastatic brain tumors. In particular, the laboratory is interested in studying the mechanisms of primary and metastatic brain tumor stem cells, and developing modalities for targeting these cells using phage display. We are also interested in the mechanisms that drive the formation of brain metastasis-forming cells, and how these cells can be isolated and targeted for the development of improved therapies against metastatic brain tumors. These studies will lead to translational studies that develop novel targeting strategies against brain tumors for use in imaging and drug delivery. This will include the use of animal imaging modalities such as IVIS and MRI. The laboratory is also involved in the development of targeted therapies such as chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells for development of novel therapeutic targeting strategies against brain tumors.

Position Highlights:
• The fellow will be involved in translational brain tumor studies aimed at development of theranostic approaches to brain tumors
• These will involve developing and testing brain tumor specific targeting peptides, and using these peptides to test modalities for improved imaging of and therapeutic delivery to brain tumors
• The Liu laboratory also focuses on the study of brain metastasis stem cells, and understanding the mechanisms that drive the formation of brain metastases

The Ideal Candidate:
• Motivated, interested in translational studies involving brain tumors
• Experience with tissue culture work, immunohistochemistry, lentivirus use
• Experience with mice tumor models and mice surgeries

Responsibilities:
• Maintenance of brain tumor cell lines through in vitro and in vivo culture
• Performing experiments involved in testing gene function in brain tumor stem cells through cell viability and migration assays, and shRNA knockdowns
• Maintenance of brain tumor mice models, harvesting tumors, live animal imaging with assistance from the core

Credentials and Qualifications:
PhD, MD or equivalent degree

How to Apply: Interested applicants should send a single PDF file that includes a cover letter summarizing their research training and accomplishments, a personal statement of scientific interests and goals, current CV with recent publications, and contact information for three references to Dr. James Liu @ james.liu@moffitt.org.
