Job Description

Our laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and responsible candidate Postdoctoral Associate to join our research team. The primary focus of our lab is the exploration of mechanisms that cause catabolic disease. We study models of muscle losses stimulated by initiators such as chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetes, aging and cancer cachexia. The models we study include complications of catabolic diseases that impair functions of skeletal muscle stem cells (satellite cell abnormalities that impair muscle regeneration). Ultimately, we are evaluating strategies to block catabolic disease-induced muscle wasting. The individual will design and conduct biomedical research focused on epigenomic regulation of muscle protein metabolism. He/she will use different approaches including genetic animal models, recombinant viral vectors, molecular biology, and physiology. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to select and develop specific projects, acquire new skills, participate in grant writing, and participate in seminars including presenting at department or national conferences.

  • PhD or MD
  • Ability to handle animals (mice breeding and genotyping) and perform subtotal nephrectomy surgery on mice or rats, creating animal models of uremia.

Preferred:  Expertise includes biochemistry, tissue culture and molecular biology skills.
