Department Description:

The High Energy Density Experiments department (Org. 1688) is made up of a multi-disciplinary team of physicists, engineers, and technologist who design and perform high energy density (HED) experiments driven by fast pulsed power. The majority of experiments are conducted on the Z Facility, the world's most powerful pulsed-power generator, in support of the National Nuclear Security Administration's Stockpile Stewardship Program. The department actively collaborates with other national and international laboratories and universities on the advancement of magnetically driven implosions for radiation production, understanding the physics of hot, dense plasmas, and thermonuclear fusion in the laboratory.
