The History Department at Saint Mary's College of California invites applications to teach one course in African History since 1850 (HIST 172) for the Spring term, 2020.

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1:15 - 2:50 pm

This is a study of the major themes of state building, Islamic revolutions, colonialism, nationalism and pan-Africanism, the role of the military in recent decades, African decolonization and economic development in the context of the modern world. The course emphasizes the development of African contemporary culture in comparison with that of selected nations and regions of the developed world.


The candidate must have a PhD or ABD in the history of Africa. If ABD, please include the title and projected completion date for the dissertation.
