Position Description
This two year appointment beginning fall 2019 will work under the direct supervision of the Director of the School of Family and Consumer Sciences to support the mission of the school. The Postdoctoral Scholar will research and develop grant proposals in collaboration with faculty and establish strong and positive relationships with foundations, corporations, state and federal funders.

Job Duties
• Grant Proposal Development
Writes highly competitive proposals that address public and private funder interests in alignment with the school’s mission. Develops and oversees timelines for completion of grant writing steps in advance of grant submissions. Writes, organizes, edits, and submits grant applications in accordance with grantor requirements and deadlines, and monitors and tracks status of proposals. Researches foundation and public opportunities and works with Dr. Behnke and faculty to assess fit for the school. Assembles all pertinent grant material necessary for final submission. Executes the grant strategy and solicitation plan that supports the school’s mission and strategic objectives. Works with faculty and Pre Award staff to develop budgets, logic models, and timelines.
• Engagement and Discovery
Works with faculty and partners to identify new research opportunities and plan for each accordingly. Participates in school’s strategic planning events and biweekly grant development meetings. Acts as a liaison between the school, research coordinators, faculty, and Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
• Partnership Development and Management Forms partnerships with non-profit organizations, state and local government agencies, and potential funders to increase capacity of the school and its strategic priorities. Works as a team member on all tasks. Establishes rapport with a variety of stakeholders. Shares strategic directions at public speaking engagements.

Required Qualifications
• Completed Ph.D. in the fields of health, nutrition, human development and family studies, education, diversity, and/or related fields;
• Experience in technical writing and editing;
• Advanced Microsoft Suite Skills (including, but not limited to, Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint);
• Prior experience applying various reference styles in technical writing (including, but not limited to: MLA, APA, and AMA);
• Experience working with university faculty and research scientists; and
• Expertise managing a complex, deadline-driven process involving diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience participating in writing funded grants to public and/or private organizations in the fields of health, nutrition, human development and family studies, education, and/or diversity. Preference given to candidates who demonstrate a track record in creating and revising components of a grant proposal: curriculum vita/biosketches, narratives/research strategies, specific aims/project summaries/abstracts, letters of support, budgets, scopes of work, and other required documentation;
• At least 3 years of grant-writing experience;
• Training in technical writing, scientific writing, or grant writing;
• Training in research ethics, data security, and data management;
• Skills in visual presentation of theory, programs, and research analyses;
• Knowledge of the funding landscape, tools to identify funding opportunities, and priorities to funders, including but not limited to: federal agencies (NIH, USDA, NSF), state agencies (THECB, DHHS), and foundations (RWJF, WT Grant, ATT);
• Experience in fundraising and/or involvement in capital campaigns; and
• Experience conducting electronic literature reviews using the University library’s website and integrating literature reviews with reference management software (e.g., EndNote, Mendeley).
