This is a grant funded position.

Position Summary

The Ambassador for the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness For Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) coordinates CSN's outreach efforts to college-level freshman students, and high school students in schools that have been identified by the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) GEAR UP program and funded by the U.S. Department of Educational annual grants. The grant-based Ambassador position exists to enhance Southern Nevada's college-going culture. Reporting to the Director of Recruitment and College Connections. The Ambassador designs, implements, and assesses programs intended to educate and assist first-generation college students and their families regarding; college application and financial literacy activities, academic support, career exploration/shadowing activities, evaluation of programming and transition services, sustained communication with cohort, launching first-semester programming, integration of retention best practices, and parental involvement and after-school activities. The Ambassador also provides supervision for the GEAR UP specialist. The Ambassador carefully monitors high school student participation and works closely with the on-site Student/Parent Involvement Facilitators (SPIF) in each school.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college and/or university in social science, education, communication, management or a closely related field and one year of experience in an education or educationally related setting working with first-generation college going students or equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of higher education admission requirements.
• Knowledge of Financial aid and scholarship options for college students.
• Knowledge Adolescent learning and student development theory
• Knowledge of K-12 policies for student progression to graduation.
• Knowledge of program and event management.
• Knowledge of college preparatory coursework.
• Knowledge of federal law as related to position, i.e., Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Knowledge of documentation as required by GEAR UP grant.

Starting Salary Range

Administrative Faculty Grade B

$38,549 - $44,216
