The Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Emory & Henry College invites applications to fill a principal faculty position in its Masters of Physician Assistant Studies Program. This position is a full-time, 12-month appointment in either a tenure-track or non-tenure-track line, depending on the candidate’s background and qualifications. The department provides a student- and faculty-centric program with an emphasis on team-based learning, experiential activities and mindfulness practices, and a mission to improve access to high-quality, compassionate, culturally sensitive, patient-centered, evidence-based medical care in rural and underserved areas. The department is specifically looking for applicants who are PAs, although Physicians are also encouraged to apply.


This principle faculty position will be responsible for the following as they relate to the PA Program:

Assist Dept. Chair/Director and other Principal Faculty in program development processes
Provide student instruction and academic counseling of students
Assist the Director of Didactic Education in didactic-phase courses/activities
Assist the Director of Clinical Education in clinical-phase courses/activities
Assist in overseeing students in both didactic and clinical phases of the 27-month program
Evaluate student performance, curriculum and program outcomes
Participate in student admission processes
Participate in the program’s continuous self-assessment processes
Participate as a volunteer provider in the Mel Leaman Free Clinic at Emory & Henry College
Serve on program, departmental, school and college committees as needed.
If a PA, candidate must be NCCPA certified and hold an unrestricted Virginia state license (or be license eligible in Virginia). If a physician, candidate must hold an unrestricted ABMS- or AOA-approved specialty board certification and Virginia state license (or be license eligible in Virginia). If applicants are not licensed in the state of Virginia, they must secure an unrestricted Virginia license within 3 months of joining the program. Applicants must also have a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice. Previous clinical precepting or teaching experience for an accredited physician assistant program or medical school is preferred. However, clinicians new to academia are encouraged to apply and will have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment with active and supportive mentoring and faculty development training.
