Job Description

Assistant Professor Maria Tosches’s lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Columbia University in the City of New York is seeking applicants for a Staff Associate. The Staff Associate will support lab members on research projects, including single-cell sequencing, generation of transgenic lines with CRISPR-Cas, brain injections and histology. He/She will also assist with lab supply and inventory control and equipment maintenance checks.
Specific duties of the position are as follows: percentage of time devoted to each.
i. single-cell sequencing – 35%
ii. generation of transgenic lines with CRISPR-Cas – 25%
iii. brain injections – 15%
iv. histology – 15%
v. lab supply inventory control and ordering – 5%
vi. equipment reviews and maintenance checks – 5%
vii. train and supervisor undergraduate work-study and casual lab assistants – as needed

Requirements for this position include:
BA or BS required in appropriate field (Molecular/Developmental/Neurobiology) -familiarity with molecular biology (PCR, cloning) and/or histology (sectioning, in situ hybridization) techniques
- background in neuroscience and/or developmental biology
- at least two years of previous laboratory experience

- willing to learn quickly
- excellent communication skills and be able to interact and collaborate with other lab members and external people
