Job Description

The Department of Teacher Education at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) is looking for a dynamic, highly-qualified Assistant/Associate (Tenure-Track) Professor of Teacher Education, Mathematics to begin August, 2020. The Illinois State Board of Education approved Teacher Education program seeks to expand our programs and diversify our teacher candidate pool. We invite applicants who are interested in joining our team of individuals dedicated to high quality teaching and concerned for personal growth and well-being of faculty, staff, and student members of the Teacher Education community. This is a full-time on-campus position. UIS tenure-system faculty are expected to be available and engaged in the campus community, with assigned responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and service.

Duties:
The preferred candidate will have demonstrable experience with the Common Core Standards, culturally relevant pedagogy, data-informed assessments in a K-12 setting, the Danielson Framework for Teaching, and the edTPA. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong teaching record at the K-12 and/or college/university level. Areas of teaching assignments could include (but are not limited to) teaching methods of mathematics at the elementary, middle grades, and secondary levels. For example: Teacher Education Math Methods courses: TEP 401 TEP 424 TEP 428 TEP 436. Programs in the Department of Teacher Education emphasize innovative, high-quality teaching, school and community engagement, and the affirmation of multiculturalism and diversity. Candidates should expect to address their qualifications in these areas as well. The general teaching load is three courses per semester. Summer teaching may be available, depending on enrollments, curricular needs, and funding.
Qualifications:
Initial criteria for this position include a doctoral degree from an accredited university in Education, Mathematics Education or a related field (or ABD), a minimum of five full-time years of classroom teaching experience in a K-12 setting, teacher licensure/teaching certificate in the math content area in Illinois or another state, successful experience working with diverse K-12 learners, and successful experience utilizing technology innovation in the delivery of course materials.

Preferred qualifications include experience teaching at the college/university level, experience teaching pre-service and/or in-service teachers, experience teaching in online and/or hybrid environments, strong record (or promise) of scholarship in mathematics education and/or teacher education, and record of service (or ability to serve) to department, college, university, profession, and community.
