Job Description

Job Purpose

Provide clinical genetic counseling services to pediatric patients and their families as a part of the Division of Hematology in Houston, TX.

Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as a member of multidisciplinary teams including hematology, bone marrow failure and vascular anomalies
  • Identify appropriate patients for genetic services and determine relevant genetic testing options within clinical population
  • Provide pre- and post-test genetic counseling services for patients diagnosed with or at risk for genetic conditions within the hematology center and clinics
  • Assist with insurance authorization process for genetic testing
  • Interpret and deliver genetic test results to patients seen in with the Division of Hematology
  • Compose patient letters summarizing the genetic counseling session
  • Coordinate relevant follow-up services for patients and families
  • Prepare presentations, contribute to publications, and other research activities
  • Aid in the education of medical fellows and genetic counseling trainees
  • Participate in institutional committees and national professional organizations
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Required: Master's degree in Genetics, Counseling or related field.
Experience:
  • None required.
Certification/Licenses/
Registration:
  • Required: Board-eligible or Board Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
Preferred Qualifications

Preferred: Fluency in Spanish
