Summary

Woodlands Campus The Trauma and Grief (TAG) Center at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine seeks to fill a Sr. Medical Social Worker position. This full-time position will involve implementing evidence- based assessment and trauma-informed interventions for traumatized and/or bereaved youth, ages 7 to 17, including youth who may have a history of other traumas such as exposure to Hurricane Harvey. The Senior Medical Social Worker may also be involved in the training and dissemination of these practices nationally as part of a series of training's hosted by our TAG Center, a Category II Treatment and Service Adaptation Center of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. The position requires close collaboration with treatment developers to support monitoring of fidelity to treatment and refinement of interventions to ensure cultural attunement. The position also involves working within a multidisciplinary team of social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and pediatricians.

Job Responsibilties
  • Interviews clients and relatives to obtain social history relevant to medical problems and history.
  • Assesses each client during initial contact.
  • Documents progress after client visits.
  • Answers client calls and assesses need for services.
  • Plans a course of treatment or refers clients to appropriate agencies and physicians.
  • Conducts independent psychotherapies to assist patients in achieving positive psychological or social adjustments.
  • Serves as a liaison between medical and nursing staff, clients, relatives and appropriate outside agencies.
  • Arranges transportation for clients to physicians’ appointments.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Required: Master's degree in Social Work from a school approved by the Council on Social Work Education.
Experience:
  • Required: One year of relevant experience.
  • Preferred: Clinical practice concentration and field practicum or recent work experience in health care agency or hospital, outpatient clinic, or other clinical practice setting.
  • Must have some experience working with traumatized and/or bereaved youth.
Certification/Licenses/
Registration:
  • Required: Licensure as a Master Social Worker (LMSW) by The Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners (TSBSWE).
  • Preferred: LCSW
