Ben Taub Hospital is one of the main teaching hospitals (444 beds) for Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) and is an elite Level I trauma center. Ben Taub cares for more than 80,000 emergency patients each year as well as providing full service adult acute care services, limited pediatric services, and a wide range of outpatient clinic services. The Transfusion Service transfuses 28,000 blood components annually. Transfusion medicine faculty provide clinical consultation for inpatient therapeutic apheresis.

Job Responsibilities:

The applicant will be an active participant in an inter-departmental patient blood management program and transfusion safety processes.  Cross coverage of the clinical pathology subspecialties and case review/interpretation is also expected. Opportunity exists for participation in clinical research as well as taking more responsibility as medical director for one or more Ambulatory Care Service (ACS) laboratories.


Essential Functions:

• Work primarily at Ben Taub Hospital with time afforded to medical directorship of ACS labs as needed.

• Participate in call rotation for Transfusion Service at BSLMC.

• Associate Medical Director, Transfusion Service at Ben Taub Hospital.


Job Qualifications:

Candidates will be considered for Assistant or Associate Professor rank for appointment into the Department of Pathology & Immunology at BCM.


Minimum requirements: MD degree and board certification in Clinical Pathology and Transfusion Medicine and ability to obtain a Texas Medical License are required. 


Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and background
