Job Description

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in Dr. Byron Lee's laboratory in the Department of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Sciences. The laboratory is part of Cleveland Clinic's Genitourinary Malignancies Research Center  and Case Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Bladder cancer is the fifth most common non-cutaneous malignancy in the United States, but there have been few major advancements in treatment over the last three decades. Large scale efforts to characterize the molecular basis of bladder cancer have demonstrated that most cases have alterations in chromatin modifier genes, which encode proteins that play a critical role in shaping how a cell behaves. Our lab seeks to understand how chromatin modifier gene mutations affect bladder cancer initiation, progression, and response to therapies. We use a variety of biochemical, molecular biology, next generation sequencing (including single cell sequencing), and genome editing techniques to study these processes in cell culture, murine, and patient-derived models.

The ideal candidate will have a broad and deep understanding of cancer biology and already mastered fundamental techniques in biochemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology. Additionally, candidates must have a doctorate degree (Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.) in the biological sciences, excellent spoken and written communication skills, and a strong publication record that demonstrates the candidate's ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Other desirable skills include the ability to perform computational biology analyses of next generation sequencing data, experience with mouse models, and a strong clinical understanding of bladder and upper tract urothelial cancers. Importantly, you will be expected to take a lead role in initiating a new project and driving it to completion through independent experimental design, troubleshooting, data generation and analysis, and manuscript preparation.

Please send your curriculum vitae and contact information for 3 references to Dr. Byron Lee (leeb4@ccf.org).
