Department Summary
The University of Oregon is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), and is a major research university committed to combining high level research with excellent undergraduate and graduate teaching. The School of Law is Oregon’s only public law school, made up of three graduate degree programs and an undergraduate legal studies program.

Position Summary
An essential component of legal education, Oregon Law's experiential education focuses on students gaining generally applicable practice skills and on developing expertise in a particular substantive area. The UO School of Law provides five external and three in-house clinic opportunities, a wide variety of field placements. and several simulation courses. The Director of Experiential Education (director) must have significant experience with and knowledge about experiential learning in legal education, academic and career advising, and professional responsibility. The director’s three major areas of responsibility are program administration including direct supervision of the law school’s clinical and field placement offerings; the experiential education curriculum; and academic advising. This position also has leadership responsibilities for program communications, budget management, annual events, student and career support, development, and office administration. The director will also oversee all clinical programs, field placements, simulation courses, and teach in our Business Law Clinic.
The position requires a passion for working with and mentoring students, excellent communication and leadership skills, organizational prowess, initiative, and self-motivation. Considerable judgment and tact are required in working with many diverse students, donors, alumni, distinguished guests and faculty members to coordinate the smooth execution of the School of Law’s mission and goals.

This is a 1.0 FTE, 12-month, fixed-term, career non-tenure track position that reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. There is an expectation that this position will continue beyond one-year based on performance, funding, and need.

Minimum Requirements
• JD from an ABA-accredited law school with a record of academic excellence.
• Five years’ relevant professional experience which includes knowledge, skills, and expertise in experiential legal education.
• Two years’ supervisory and administrative management experience.
• Bar licensed in any jurisdiction with expectation to become bar licensed in the state of Oregon.

• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully with diverse group of clients, students, and faculty members.
• Ability to develop and implement a strategic plan for the clinic and field placement program.
• Ability to work effectively with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds, including students of color, international students, non-traditional students and returning learners, and to foster sensitivity to and competency regarding diverse issues in a university community.
• Strong organizational, administrative, and supervisory skills
• Proven or potential for teaching success.
• Strong problem solving and project management skills with proven ability to strategize and prioritize, to meet goals and deadlines.
• Flexibility to adapt and respond as necessary as this pilot program develops and grows.
• Budget management skills and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• Demonstrated understanding of changing landscape of experiential learning for law school students.
• Demonstrated success in enhancing and expanding experiential programs for students, including working with faculty, alumni and potential employers.
• Significant experience as a clinical attorney, or significant legal practice experience in business law.
