Job Description

Fort Hays State University’s Office of Technology Services is hiring a full-time Desktop Engineer to assist managing 2500 Windows and Mac workstations with focus on deployment strategies, patch management, inventory, group policies, and other special tasks above and beyond standard desktop support staff. This position will have emphasis on, but not limited to, Mac related equipment including laptops, desktops, and tablets, and will develop imaging and deployment techniques specifically for Macs. Other duties include all support aspects for labs from software licensing to network printing setup and issues. Our office covers the entire campus as well as a few satellite offices. Salary range is $40,000 - $48,000 commensurate on education and experience.
Coordination, planning, testing, installation, and verification of system patches and software upgrades.
Assist tier 1 and 2 with general hardware and software troubleshooting and break/fix repairs of Windows and Mac laptops and desktops.
Develop imaging and deployment procedures specifically for Macs and for tier 2 staff to execute.
Assist with device management of machines with emphasis on Macs including patch management and applying security policies.
Work with vendors to troubleshoot and repair software and licensing issues.
Seek and test new procedures, scripting, and automation tasks to improve all aspects of deployment, management, and security of Windows and Mac endpoints.
Serve as lead MDM admin specifically for iPads.
Act as purchasing agent for Mac and Mac related equipment to the University assisting users with technology consulting as needed.
Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited university.
3+ years IT Support related work.
Desktop management experience.
Demonstrated experience with Mac desktop imaging and distribution platforms in an enterprise environment.
Mac mobile device management experience.
Strong troubleshooting skills dealing with Windows and Mac.
Working knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policies.
Ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and projects.
Excellent customer relation skills in working with technical and non-technical users.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical procedures verbally or in writing.
Effectively collaborate with team members at all levels.
