The Psychologist/Social Worker/Counselor position will provide general mental health counseling with a special focus on substance use/abuse assessment, treatment, prevention, and recovery support. This position will provide early identification, assessment, intervention, and referrals for general mental health needs, including concerns related to substance use/abuse.

This position will report to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services and collaborate closely with all University primary care providers, case manager, counselors and other health team members. Staff counselors at Counseling and Psychological Services provide time-limited individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, consultation and psycho-educational services to primarily to undergraduate and graduate students, and consultation to faculty and staff.

Counseling and Psychological Services is part of the Center for Well-Being, an integrated health care delivery and prevention service combining the offices of Counseling and Psychological Services, Health Services, Wellness, and Sexual Violence Prevention.

This position has a .83 FTE. We anticipate this role to work 5 days per week, 10 months out of the year, depending on business needs.


Provide individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, assessment, outreach and consultation to both general college student mental health and in the area of alcohol, drugs, prevention, and recovery support.
Provide assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and resources to undergraduate and graduate students presenting with concerns related to substance use/abuse and/or in need of recovery support.
Collaborate with Wellness, Health Services, and Sexual Violence Prevention and other campus partners on outreach and prevention programming related to college student substance use.
Provides outreach, workshops, and training on various mental health and wellbeing topics as needed.
Conducts assessment and intervention for urgent and emergent student needs related to substance use/abuse.
Provides consultation and supervision to CAPS doctoral psychology interns and practicum students on general mental health issues and issues related to substance use/abuse.
Engage in campus committee work as assigned by Director and/or as time permits.
Additional responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, or marriage and family therapy from an accredited program
Three years of professional level experience to include experience working with an Electronic Health Record System (EHR)
Licensed or license-eligible to practice independently in the State of Minnesota as an LP, LPCC, LICSW, or LMFT
This position may also provide clinical supervision to graduate student trainees if experience and licensure allows.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, or marriage and family therapy from an accredited program
LADC certification
Experienced competency in general mental health issues and substance abuse counseling, particularly with college students or young adults
Experience with prevention programming, planning and providing outreach (workshops, training) activities
