The College of New Jersey invites applications for a part-time Art Education adjunct position in the Department of Art and Art History. We seek an Art Educator to supervise junior and/or senior-level pre-service art teachers in the K-12 schools in the Fall and/or Spring semesters. Date of appointment: Ongoing


The College of New Jersey is a highly selective public institution that has earned national recognition for its commitment to excellence. The College's seven schools - The Arts and Communication; Business; Humanities and Social Sciences; Education; Science; Nursing, Health and Exercise Science; and Engineering - offer degrees to nearly 7,000 students. With a 13 to 1 student to faculty ratio, TCNJ seeks to enroll approximately 1,375 entering, full-time freshmen each fall, 95 percent of whom live on campus.


The position is a field/student teaching Supervisor. Responsibilities include observing junior and/or senior-level pre-service art teachers in K-12 schools, conducting post-observation conferences, reviewing art lesson plans, completing student assessment forms, and maintaining positive professional relationships between the student teachers, cooperating teachers, school districts, and TCNJ. We are seeking an inspiring, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and innovative art educator to contribute to TCNJ's Art Education program and provide support to pre-service art teachers. The College is located in close proximity to Princeton, NJ, Philadelphia, PA, and New York City, NY.

Minimum qualifications:

1) Completed Master’s Degree in Art Education or related field by the date of appointment. Applicants with equivalent experience as a K-12 art teacher may be considered.

2) At least three years of full-time elementary or secondary school art teaching experience in the United States.

3) Previous college teaching experience, supervision of novice teachers, or mentorship of pre-service teachers.

4) Record of teaching effectiveness in the K-12 schools and active engagement with professional organizations such as AENJ or NAEA.

The ideal candidate will understand the current trends in art education and challenges facing the field. The candidate must have access to a car and be available weekdays to travel to K-12 schools in order to observe pre-service teachers.
