Job Description

The Department of Music at Bridgewater College invites applications from outstanding teacher-scholars with expertise in choral music for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music position starting August 2020.



The successful candidate will join a growing and dynamic music program at a liberal arts college that values quality teaching, advising and mentoring students, and an active scholarly agenda. The Department of Music seeks a dynamic and collaborative choral/vocal educator and musician. The position includes directing the Concert Choir, Chorale, and Oratorio Choir, with the creative development of choral concerts and tours throughout the region. Other teaching responsibilities include choral conducting, choral literature, and voice methods. The Director of Choral Music is also the faculty advisor for student run A Cappella and Gospel choirs. The successful candidate might also have the expertise to teach courses in music education, support in the supervision of student teachers, or teach courses in a secondary area.



Qualifications: A Ph.D., D.M.A., or Ed.D. is required. Choral teaching experience at the college level is preferred. Candidates with experience in secondary education are preferred. The successful candidate will have experience with traditional and contemporary choral literature and be eager to help advance the preparation of vocal music education students.

General Information: Bridgewater College was founded in 1880 as the first coeducational college in Virginia and has an educational philosophy of developing the whole person and equipping students to become leaders with a strong sense of personal accountability and civic responsibility. The College offers 63 majors and minors, 29 concentrations and emphases, pre-professional programs, dual degree programs, teacher education and certification, and graduate programs in athletic training and digital media strategy.
