Minimum Qualifications
The requirements for the position include Masters Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or Human Development and Family Studies.

Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
We are particularly interested in knowledge and experience in teaching young children, working with families of young children, knowledge or experience in the Reggio Emilia approach, experience with a laboratory early care and education program, supporting English language learners, and university/higher education teaching experience both main campus and online.

License/Certification Required
Preferred North Carolina Birth through Kindergarten license.

Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Family and Child Studies is located in the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University. The department prepares students in the areas of Child Development and Birth through Kindergarten teacher education. There are currently 5 full-time faculty. The program serves approximately 60 majors in Child Development and 60 majors in Birth through Kindergarten. The program also consists of the Lucy Brock Child Development Laboratory, a Reggio-inspired program, which serves approximately 94 children and their families in three on-campus classrooms and three NC PreK classrooms in the public schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching undergraduate courses in Child Development and Education, and Early Childhood Special Education.
Teach 4/4 load
Service expectations (e.g., attend faculty meetings, college meetings, graduations, committees, community engagement).
Possible advising
Opportunities for research (not required).
