Job Description

This is a team science position in the Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA). CIDA is a campus wide analytics center charged with expanding the analytics expertise and research for the Anschutz Medical Campus. The incumbent will join a growing group of master’s and doctoral trained collaborative and consulting biostatisticians and bioinformaticians in CIDA and the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics. The primary work of this position is to collaborate on multi-‘omics projects with investigators in the Consortium for Fibrosis Research & Translation (CFReT) and the Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine. The person in this position will essentially be embedded in the Cardiology division developing collaborations with CFReT and Cardiology faculty and becoming fluent in their science.



A smaller portion of the position is to consult with other biomedical investigators with ‘omics-based projects through CIDA’s consulting branch. The consulting work and collaborative research groups for this position focus on integration of different computational biology and ‘omics data sources and implementing pipelines for ‘omics data such as proteomics, metabolomics, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, single cell sequencing, among other platforms.



This position will join over two dozen graduate students, and Master’s and Doctoral trained faculty in CIDA.



Professional research assistants work under the direction of one or more doctoral or Master’s level biostatisticians/bioinformaticians. A professional research assistant is expected to spend most of their time managing data and implementing existing data processing pipelines.

The PRA will be supervised by Katerina Kechris, Professor of Biostatistics and Informatics, with mentorship from the lead of the collaborative group.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

The incumbent is expected to work collaboratively with other members of the research team and provide high-level, professional and scientifically rigorous data management and analytic support to the research teams. The PRA will conduct data management and integration of different data sources with an emphasis on ‘omics studies. He/she will work with other researchers on the analytical aspects of the research process, including: data management, data pre-processing, complex programming, and dissemination of results. This individual is expected to prepare figures for and co-author abstracts, oral and poster presentations, and scientific manuscripts.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Strong knowledge of computational biology principles.
Strong programming skills in multiple languages including several of R, Python, SQL, Java, C++, Bash, C, or others
Strong data management skills in R.
An ability to work with high performance computing environments.
Strong reproducible research practices to handle version control (e.g. git, snakemake)
Good organizational skills across multiple projects, managing own work load, self-directed.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Positive attitude and the ability to work with a variety of biomedical investigators and colleagues.
Ability to contribute to the growth and development of the CIDA, the CFReT and the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics and the Division of Cardiology.
