Job Description

The Administrator for Pharmacy Services is accountable for organizing, leading, and managing UVA Health’s inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services, including outlying clinics and physician practices. The Administrator is also responsible for pharmacy services including but not limited to retail pharmacies, specialty pharmacy, post-acute care, infusion pharmacies, and mail order. Additional services are provided to joint ventures including but not limited to Encompass Health, Hospice of the Piedmont, and Transitional Care Hospital. The Administrator ensures the pharmacy works in a collegial manner with and supports the teaching and research mission of the Health System, including collaboration with VCU School of Pharmacy.
Directs the operations of the medication delivery system for inpatient, ambulatory, and decentralized pharmacy services throughout UVA Health.
Overall responsibility for planning, coordinating, program evaluation, resource management, cost control, and quality improvement.
Develops and implements policies, programs, and procedures that guide and support the provision of services and improve the care and outcomes for patients.
Collaborates with medical center colleagues and stakeholders to provide strategic planning and serves as the change agent for Pharmacy Services when needed. Evaluates the use of systems, resources and equipment/technology to achieve desirable outcomes and provide the most efficient and effective services possible for the institution as a whole.
Supports the pharmacy management team in functions that include recruitment, staffing, compensation, performance management, orientation, employee engagement and staff development.Ensures that all team members are qualified and competent to perform assigned duties.
Prepares and manages the operating and capital budget for the pharmacy service line. Assesses the need for additional resources and makes recommendations as appropriate to division chief. Maintains fiscal accountability and adheres to annual budget.
Ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulatory and professional standards. Assumes accountability for remaining current regarding regulations and standards for ensuring institutional compliance.

Position Compensation Range: $158,974.40 - $254,363.20 Annual
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Pharmacy degree (B.S. and/or Pharm.D.) from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy required; Master's degree required. Doctor of Pharmacy is strongly preferred.

Experience: Minimum seven years progressive experience in hospital pharmacy management and clinical distributive pharmaceutical services. Specialized residency training will be considered towards required experience. Experience in a teaching hospital highly desirable, and academic medical center strongly preferred.

Licensure: Licensed to practice as a Pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
