Job Description

The College of Professional Sciences at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio invites applicants with expertise in Secondary Education to fill a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in its Secondary Education Program housed in the School of Education. The position begins in Fall 2020.

Qualified candidates must possess a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Secondary Education or a related discipline. Competitive applicants will be prepared to assume responsibility teaching in a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in the Secondary Education Licensure Program as well as the MEd in Secondary Education. Teaching courses in Educational Foundations is also a possibility as they are included in both the licensure and degree programs. Candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with faculty and staff in the Secondary Education Program, assist with direct student advisement, and represent the program positively to prospective students and supporters. Preference will be given to applicants with university teaching experience, experience supervising and/or advising undergraduate and graduate students, teaching experience in grades 7-12 settings, program development, accreditation, and committee work. Experience teaching methods courses is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research and publication agenda, participate in School and Program functions, engage in university and community service, and contribute to a culture of collaboration among colleagues and students. This position reports to the Director for Secondary Programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Secondary Education or a related area in education from an accredited university;
• Demonstrated 5 years of successful teaching experience in 7-12 settings;
• Articulated willingness to engage in course and program design;
• Articulated ability to employ diverse pedagogies in a learner-centered environment;
• Current, valid 7-12 teaching license;
• Expressed willingness to engage with Jesuit educational values;

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated successful ability to work collaboratively with others;
• Experience in developing and sustaining relationships with partners in diverse K-12 settings;
• Clearly Articulated Research Agenda, including publications;
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication skills;
• Ability and willingness to advise undergraduate and graduate students;
• Ability and willingness to assist the Secondary Education Program in program evaluation and development.
