Job Summary
Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) is seeking an Engineering Technician to join a team providing a broad range of technical support to more than 80 PhD students, 40 faculty and an array of master’s and undergraduate students and student teams. The position reports to the Lab Manager with additional direction from the faculty Lab Director and Department Chair.

The successful candidate will excel at working with faculty, staff, postdocs, and visitors but primarily with students and student teams with strong customer service skills as well as significant knowledge of safety requirements to ensure safety within the labs and classrooms throughout the department (GG Brown and EWRE buildings). We are seeking someone who is passionate about empowering others to be successful, with an excitement for new programs or laboratory services. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative member of the team, providing an inviting and safe approach to research and education. She/He/They will also benefit from having a strong sense of curiosity and inquisitiveness about the research to better engage the department stakeholders, most especially the students.

The technical tasks performed will be complex in nature, including design, fabrication, modification, maintenance and repair of specialized scientific or engineering equipment and related devices; participating in research design activities and resolving operational problems with facilities or equipment; conducting experiments and assisting instructors with lab classes (especially CEE 351 Civil Engineering Materials).

Compensation may exceed the posted salary for an exceptionally qualitied candidate.

Research Support - 30%

Meet with department stakeholders to discuss project needs, explore technical options, and propose robust approaches to position stakeholders for experimental success
Design and fabricate and modify complex devices/apparatus for research using shop tools such as a drill press, band saw, table saw, lathe, MTS hydraulic testing equipment system, lift table, scissor lift, etc.
Work with students on various technical needs such as testing design and fabrication, equipment improvements and space setup
Advise professional staff on component and equipment requirements and capabilities
Consult on equipment requirements and capabilities; coordinate work with professional staff
Prepare complex drawings with specifications and tolerances
Build concrete forms for test specimens
Maintain and design reactor tanks and other wet experimental set-ups
