Who we are

This position will be located in the High Performance Research Computing (HPRC) group within the Division of Research. Since 1989, HPRC, has been dedicated to provide resources for research and discovery at Texas A&M University to advance sciences and technologies. HPRC supports more than 1,000 users including more than 400 faculty members, by providing computing resources for cutting edge, collaborative, and transformative research including materials development, quantum optimization, and climate prediction. What we want

The High Performance Research Computing (HPRC) group provides support and resources, mostly in a Linux cluster environment, for over 2000 scientific computing researchers across campus. With the constant evolving needs of research computing and data enabled science on campus, there is a need to expand our services and expertise to support compliant computing in Windows and virtualized environments. The HPRC Senior IT Professional II will focus on enhancing and maintaining the security of HPRC resources as well as provide additional expertise for research projects requiring Windows environments and virtualization services and any specialized security requirements.

What you need to know

Must be U.S. Person as defined by U.S. export control regulations

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Eight years of experience in systems administration and/or security analysis
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
Knowledge of IT architecture
Project management skills
Negotiation skills
Basic vendor relations skills

Proposal writing skills

Preferred Education and Experience:

Master's degree in an information technology field
Three years of Windows and Linux server administration experience
Three years of experience with managing Linux and Windows in virtualized environments
Experience with administering HPC environments such as HPC clusters and storage
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Administration of Linux and Windows in both virtualized and nonvirtualized environments
Experience with event and log monitoring, intrusion detection, and vulnerability scanning tools
Experience with shell programming and scripting languages. Knowledge and understanding of relevant legal and regulatory requirements, such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA)
Knowledge of common information security management frameworks such as ISO/IEC 0800-171 and NIST
