Job Description

Position Summary:
The Data Analyst position is critical in the extraction and analysis of HR data. This role will develop, execute, and champion the reporting and analytics strategy to provide actionable, proactive metrics.
Duties:
Provide research and technical analysis for the HR Department. Define, write, and analyze data extracts and reports from the UA HRIS and other databases in support of departmental needs/processes. Respond to requests for information from management, employees, union representatives, and the public. Prepare accurate and complex summaries and statistical reports for use by management and union leadership in negotiations, mediation, arbitration, and litigation matters. Develop, define, and prepare research materials and analyze HR data as required. Review and recommend system-wide standards for data retrieval for effective and consistent reporting. Prepare a variety of reports on employee data assessing areas for improvement and initiatives to improve business and HR related metrics. Conduct comprehensive market and pay equity analysis for UA staff, faculty and executives in coordination with the Director of Talent Acquisition. Coordinate and develop UA responses to external salary surveys, including but not limited to major national surveys (AAUP, CUPA, SHEEO), Alaska/regional surveys (DOL) and ad hoc and single purpose surveys. Query, evaluate and interpret university data for survey responses. Extract data for the affirmative action plan and Vets 4212 from database. Coordinate with Diversity Specialist for any updates or changes to data pull. Perform other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Requires comprehensive understanding of HR (payroll, personnel, benefits, recruitment, budget) including HR processes, HR theory and HR Compliance
Must have a strong understanding of the University of Alaska system
Requires in-depth knowledge of MS Access, Oracle Data browser, or other database reporting tools
Requires in-depth knowledge of HRIS systems and how data flows from one platform to another and what impact that may have
Requires an advanced level of knowledge of MS Word and Excel
Comprehensive understanding of Banner HR, SQL Plus, and Secure Shell
Must have knowledge of principles and practices for managing small teams
Must be able to understand impacts of changes to system platforms and plan for impacts to the organization
Must be able to analyze complex problems and develop strategies for resolution. Must be able to interpret regulations, contracts, technical software documentation and understand the scope of change required
Must be flexible and able to work in an environment of change
Must be able to foster a collaborative team environment
Requires advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, and innovative thinking
Requires strong communication skills
Must have strong planning and organizational skills
Must be able to work well with stakeholders

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Minimum three progressively responsible experience years in Human Resources, Business, or Information Technology fields.

TYPICAL EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
