The College of Medicine (COM) at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) seeks an outstanding and dynamic medical educator for the part-time non-tenure position of Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME).



We are seeking a current faculty at the Nashville/Middle TN Campus who is student-centered to serve as the Assistant Dean for UME. The major responsibilities of the assistant dean include:

. Act as the principal academic officer and provide leadership and oversight of the UME program at Nashville. The Assistant Dean will work closely with the clerkship directors and others to annually evaluate the M3-M4 programs. Work with the Nashville/Middle TN campus to grow the capacity of available student rotations and help foster an environment that will attract UT students.

. Assist in the evaluation of clerkship directors.

. Assist / support as needed the development of curriculum.

. Facilitate skills development in teaching for residents and faculty.

. Participate in the campus clerkship directors' meetings for purposes of understanding and

addressing educational issues that impact programs.

. Provide on-site assistance with medical student issues-

. Evaluate/establish student and course policies in consultation with all campuses.

. Assist the Sr. Asst. Dean for Clinical Curriculum (currently Dr. Valerie Jameson) in clerkship coordination between the Memphis campus and Nashville/Middle TN campus.

. Work to resolve situations where there are insufficient faculty for effective teaching.

. serve as an od hoc member of the Committee on Undergraduate Medical Education.

. Bring problems, concerns or issues related to medical education to the attention of the Associate Dean of Medical Education, Memphis campus.



The Assistant Dean reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer and Associate Dean of Medical Education (currently Mike whitt PhD) while keeping the Associate Dean of the Nashville/Middle TN campus (currently Greg James MD) informed at all times. lt is anticipated this position will require a 10% effort with a corresponding decrease in clinical effort plus a modest supplement in compensation



Qualifications

The successful candidate must have an MD or DO, currently be on the UTHSC CoM faculty at the Nashville/Middle TN campus must be at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher, clinically active, and have leadership experience in M3-M4 medical education. ln addition, the individual should have, strong organizational and managerial skills, excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work with students and faculty, and a strong commitment to teamwork.
