The primary purpose of the Information Technology Auditor is to audit information systems within the university, and assist IA with the use, extraction, and analysis of data in the performance of its work.

This position reviews computer systems to determine if information technology is safeguarding assets, maintaining data integrity, and operating efficiently and effectively to achieve the organization’s goals and objectives. This specialized audit work includes: general controls reviews, application controls reviews, security and vulnerability assessments, computer forensics audits, data retrieval, and data analytics. Responsibilities of this position include a review of IT configurations and environments to determine if access to computer programs, data, and IT equipment is limited to authorized personnel; and to assess the measures which have been taken to prevent and/or recover from computer failure. The Information Technology Auditor performs highly complex professional internal auditing work assignments independently or under general supervision while exercising substantial judgment.

To support IA’s compliance with professional standards, the contract for services with UNC School of the Arts, and provide assistance with IA’s operations overall at Winston-Salem State University.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
To assist University stakeholders in achieving their own objectives while reducing risk to the University. To consult with management on: strategic and organizational goals; implementation of new initiatives, processes and systems; and governance issues. To ensure appropriate processes are in place to identify, assess, manage and monitor risk and compliance. To review: the integrity of data; compliance with policies, laws, university goals and objectives; the protection and efficient use of assets; and recommend improvements. To investigate allegations of misuse, mismanagement, and misconduct. To provide independent assurance services to the UNC Board of Governors, the Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) and University of North Carolina School of the Art’s (UNCSA) Boards of Trustees, and the executive management teams on each University’s ability to achieve their objectives.
