Job Description

We are seeking an Intern Year Round - R&D Undergrad On any given day, you may be called on to: + Assist staff, postdoctoral appointees and/or graduate students in electrochemical/corrosion experiments and testing + Process experiment and test data using software such as MatLab, Origin, EC-Lab, etc. + Perform scientific literature searches to learn the current state of the art in corrosion related sciences + Document experimental results in report and/or presentation form

Required:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements: + Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program + Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major + Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 + Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer + U.S. citizenship

Desired:
+ Currently pursuing Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field + Experience with chemical handling, corrosion, general electrochemistry, mechanical testing, metallurgy and/or metal additive manufacturing techniques. + Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite + Familiarity with MatLab, Origin, EC-Lab or other data processing software + Cumulative GPA greater than 3.5/4.0

Department Description:

The reliability of devices, components, and ultimately systems is directly affected by the properties and interactions of their constituent materials. The prime goal of the Materials Reliability Department is to ensure that effective materials-related information is provided to customers who design and field high-consequence hardware, such that long-term reliability will be attained. Our department's R&D activities focus on the needs of Sandia's Nuclear Weapons program customers. We also provide support to customers in other areas including Energy and Environment and National Security Programs. We have expertise in gas/solid interactions, corrosion and electrochemistry, and the aging and mechanical properties of ceramics, glasses and other brittle materials. We provide this expertise and support to our customers during all phases of design, production, storage, use, and retirement.

Security Clearance:
