Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

We are seeking an Assistant Professor that understands the importance of aligning the principles of teaching and learning in the development of curriculum for courses in our Psychology department with a specific focus on the Applied Psychology and Human Services/Social Work program and in the engagement of students in the classroom. The person filling this position believes that all students can learn, and student engagement in the classroom enhances knowledge of academic content and leads to higher student success. The Assistant Professor provides guidance to students in their learning; this person understands that students learn in different ways due to their diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and provides numerous teaching techniques, such as lecture, small group work, and use of technology, to reach all students.

The Assistant Professor encourages students to explore deeper thinking by employing teaching practices such as self-reflection and critical thinking, and evaluates student performance through a variety of methods, including written assignments, classroom presentations, testing, civic engagement opportunities, and portfolios. The ideal candidate will be flexible and possess the ability to respond to the dynamic changes occurring in higher education including the movement toward the use of technology both in face-to-face courses as well as the digital environment. The Assistant Professor will embrace competence and skill based education and the candidate's teaching demonstration will be indicative of this.

The new faculty member uses creativity in developing and implementing teaching and learning activities and provides a safe welcoming learning environment where quality learning takes place.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Teaching General Psychology
Teaching various courses utilized by our behavioral science students such as Cognitive Psychology, Human Growth and Development, Theories of Personality and more.
Teaching Research Methods with a focus on qualitative and quantitative analysis
Advising students in their educational planning with a focus on transfer
Assisting the college to meet its student retention goals.
Working collaboratively with colleagues in the Social Science department and colleagues in other disciplines, in order to ensure that opportunities for student learning are expanded, and the mission and goals of the School of Liberal and Professional Studies and the college are being met.
Assisting colleagues in developing and implementing program initiatives and changes, and attending all scheduled department, and college meetings.
Demonstrating community engagement at both the college and local levels
Taking part in the construction and implementation of new learning initiatives
Sharing pedagogical approaches with other colleagues
