Job Description

This position will be supporting the ongoing research of Joshua Wechsler, MD in his laboratory space investigating immunologic mechanism of gastrointestinal inflammation that drive clinical phenotype/outcome. The focus of this research is on two chronic inflammatory diseases:

1)Eosinophilic Esophagitis/Gastritis (EoE/EG), which involves symptoms of esophageal/gastric dysfunction and eosinophil-predominant inflammation isolated to the esophagus/stomach, and

2)Ulcerative Colitis (UC), a subtype of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) characterized by bloody diarrhea, and T-helper lymphocyte type 2 inflammation restricted to the colonic mucosa.

This position will support the interrogation of patient biopsies by RNA and protein analysis to corroborate previous findings, further an understanding of the disease process, and support the need for new therapeutic options.

2.Independently perform required laboratory assays for multiple research studies as described above
3.Participate in the development of new procedures and protocols in the conduct of research studies
4.Collaborate with faculty members and scientists in the performance and analysis of complex research studies
5.Maintain logs of patient specimens that are transferred to the lab
6.Maintain accurate records of assay results and data analysis
7.Preparing data and assist with authorship for abstracts/presentations, grants, and publications
Help write grant proposals and progress reports related to research studies
8.Participate in regular lab meetings, journal clubs, and research seminars
9.Other job functions as assigned
10.Willingness to supervise students and trainees in laboratory techniques as needed
11.Develops and maintains relationships with external agencies and vendors, and maintenance/purchasing of required laboratory supplies
