Job Description Summary:
The GW Medical Faculty Associates has a rich heritage in academics and research as the first medical school in the nation’s capital and the 11th oldest in the United States. Our physicians teach and mentor medical students, residents and researchers at The GW University School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
Opened in 1825 as Columbian College, the institution became George Washington University Medical School in 1904. In 1928, the Department of Medicine grew and became the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, and University Hospital. Twenty years later, GW Hospital opened its doors and shortly after, The Medical Faculty Associates opened its first ambulatory care center in the H.B. Burns building called “The George Washington University Clinic.”

This position is responsible for managing finance and accounting staff that coordinate the day-to-day accounting activities for MFA. Typical responsibilities include assigning resources to tasks, establishing goals to track the staff’s progress and adjusts workload accordingly, regular and ad-hoc reporting, identifying opportunities for process and service improvements, working with contacts inside and outside of the department to support the customer service operations. This position serves as an escalation point for customer and user inquiries escalated from the customer service areas by researching and analyzing information resulting from the customer inquiries or management’s request. This position may be responsible for providing reports to senior management, such as revenue, accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Manager, Financial Accounting, MFA is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of MFA accounting. Responsible for reviewing monthly, quarterly and year-end account analysis, bank reconciliations and journal entries. The Manager, Financial Accounting, MFA, is responsible for ensuring the timely closing on a monthly and fiscal year end basis. The Manager, Financial Accounting, MFA assures accuracy of all financial transactions and insures compliance with MFA and University policies and procedures. Ensures that subsidiary ledgers are in balance and that interfaces are properly feeding to general ledger. Provide supervision to staff of (3-5) professional accountants through coaching and training. Prepare annual staff performance reviews.

Excellent managerial, analytical and technical skills required.

Require excellent listening skills; must prioritize and focus on completion of task.

Provide information to departments’ Practice Group Administrators; staff and faculty on accounting issues.

Works closely with Assistant Controller – MFA Division to ensure that operational issues that impact the financial statements are addressed.

Responsible for ensuring that all transactions are processed timely and accurately and in accordance with General Accepted Accounting Principles.

Review monthly bank and account reconciliations and resolve issues.

Recommends and implements policies and procedures, insure internal controls and streamline operations.

Keeps up to date on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to insure the operation of MFA best practices and internal controls are consistent with the accounting standard.

Solve highly complex issues and assist with development of white papers related to new accounting standards.

Develops and manages external relationships with internal and external contacts.

Manages contact with external auditors on preliminary and year- end audit PBC list and assists with preparation of audited financial statements.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
4+ years relevant experience in a supervisory or lead role, preferably with exposure to high volume processing.

A CPA of advanced degree is desirable.

Experience with the Concur travel and expense reporting system a plus

Experience with Oracle R12, CORE Integrator and Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) a plus

Ability to analyze data and reports to identify areas for further review and action

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

A positive, professional demeanor with a strong focus on customer service

Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
