About the Opportunity:

Our laboratory studies the pharmacology of brain neuromodulators in the context of development of novel therapeutic interventions for neuropsychiatric illnesses. Presently, our primary focus is on subtypes of G-protein coupled receptors, such as dopamine, muscarinic, and cannabinoid receptors and their coupling to distinct effector and transduction pathways.

Our laboratory is currently involved with collaborations in the areas of medicinal chemistry, computational biophysics, and rodent behavior studies at the NIH Intramural Research Programs, complementing our efforts in molecular pharmacology and brain slice electrophysiology.


Responsibilities related to electrophysiology work include assistance with maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies, stereotactic surgical (e.g., viral injection into selective brain regions) procedures in mice, and performing field, cell-attached, and whole-cell electrophysiological recordings in vitro, as well as in the analysis and presentation of these data. Specific responsibilities related to newly acquired techniques (e.g., molecular pharmacology and biosensor work) will be discussed once the training plan is agreed upon.


The successful candidate must have a PhD Degree (for a Postdoctoral Fellow position) or BA/BS/Master’s Degree (for a Research Staff position) in neurobiology, pharmacology, or another relevant field, with training emphasis on rodent brain slice electrophysiology. For the Research Staff position, we are seeking a candidate with at least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience, particularly in rodent brain slice electrophysiology. A candidate with a strong desire to learn molecular pharmacology and biosensor-based assays as a part of training will receive strong consideration.
