The successful candidate must meet one of the following criteria:
1. A master’s degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in the category of disability, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling;
Fifteen semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of disability, to include, but not be limited to: learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, deaf and hearing impaired, physical disabilities, or adapted computer technology;
2. A bachelor’s degree with any of the following majors: education of students with specific or multiple disabilities; special education; psychology; physical education with an emphasis in adaptive physical education; communicative disorders; rehabilitation; computer-based education; other computer-related majors which include course work on adapted or assistive computer technology for students with disabilities; other majors related to providing specialized instruction or services to persons with disabilities;
3. The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
• Three (3) or more years of teaching experience in an educational environment in the areas of assistive computer technology, independent living skills, community integration, and vocational preparation at the post-secondary level.
● Evidence of advocacy and representation on behalf of students with disabilities stakeholders, professional organizations, and the community.
● Knowledge of Federal and State requirements for serving individuals with disabilities.
● Commitment to diversity. All applicants must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
Preference will be given to those candidates demonstrating a high level of professional expertise on the basis of:
• Ph.D in related field.
● Experience working effectively with and collaborating with community partners.
● Experience participating on hiring committees, conducting faculty performance reviews and/or scheduling faculty assignments.
● Knowledge and training in supported employment and adult transition services
● Teaching experience with individuals labeled as IDD or ASD.
● Knowledge and competency in working with students with disabilities including learning disabilities, hearing impaired, and mental health.
● Experience in the development of course materials and curriculum for students with disabilities.
● Knowledge of best practices in supported employment and adult transition services.
● Knowledge and experience in the use of assistive technology as it pertains to serving students with disabilities.
● Experience collaborating with faculty or community leaders in programs or initiatives that are specifically designed to help historically underrepresented or adult students achieve their educational goals.
