Job Description

Position Summary
The director of MBA career education and advising oversees the career planning, career education, coaching, and evaluation for 900 MBA Full Time, Professional, Executive, and Online MBA (MBA@Rice) students and alumni. The director will supervise the advisors, who as a team, will evaluate and review current program offerings including the creation and delivery of Career Education Days and other career seminars for large and small groups.

In addition, the director supports students’ career planning activities through routinely integrating alumni and recruiters into career programming, building relationships with employers hiring MBAs, and organizing industry, functional, and geographic specific topical events with student clubs. The director is responsible for creating and managing the budget for all MBA programming. The director advises students on a one-to-one basis on topics such as career strategy, resumes building, and interviewing.

- Clear and precise oral and written communication skills
- Strong customer focus (ability to listen attentively to students and recruiters and to understand and respond positively to their requests) is required at all times
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage time and workflow and to manage multiple, concurrent high priority projects in a time-pressured environment
- Considerable knowledge of generally accepted career counseling practices, policies, procedures, and/or techniques with college students and adult learner
- Computer literacy including database creation and maintenance, data analysis, word processing, presentation preparation
- Proficient in operation of general office equipment including personal computers and related software
- Familiarity with social media and online professional networking platforms (i.e. LinkedIn)

Internal / External Contacts
Internal Contacts: The incumbent works frequently with students and alumni and collaborates with other departments within the Jones Graduate School and across the university.

Physical Demands
Able to sit for long periods of time at a desk (up to eight hours)
