Job Description

SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER, edX, to join the team responsible for building new platform capabilities that will enable edX to disrupt education by offering high quality, affordable online master’s degrees. Will help lead modernization efforts across the platform, including work with React and other front-end languages. Responsibilities include designing, developing, deploying, and supporting scalable software systems; collaborating with the Product Management, UX, and Data Science departments to understand business problems and identify solutions; providing mentorship to team members and assisting with feedback on code reviews; building and maintaining operationally viable solutions throughout the software life cycle; committing to owning code and supporting the customer facing environment; leading team members on independent project initiatives; and promoting teamwork, researching cutting edge technology, and supporting a vibrant and innovative work environment.

EdX is an open source educational software startup venture between MIT and Harvard.



Job Requirements

REQUIRED: five years’ full-stack coding experience; real-world experience developing and deploying large websites in React or another modern JavaScript framework; ability to problem solve, drive projects with loosely defined requirements, communicate with stakeholders, and learn from both success and failure; ability to share your knowledge with team members through mentoring, code reviews, pair programming, presentations, etc.; and experience working in an agile development environment. PREFERRED: experience working with Python and Django, building static websites (edX uses Gatsby and GraphQL), Optimizely or similar A/B testing tools, and accessibility best practices and compliant front-end development standards; familiarity with experiment design and evaluation and open source frameworks; working knowledge of SEO; an interest in enabling and integrating open source contributions; B.S. in computer science.
