Job Summary
The “Biospecimen Navigator” is the coordinator of lab migration, OpenSpecimen protocol configuration, data quality assurance and biospecimen management best practices according to University Rule 7‐002A. The Biospecimen Navigator, a member of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) Biomedical Informatics Core, works in conjunction with the Precision Medicine Foundation to guide researchers in specimen management best practices and in the utilization of CCTS biospecimen management application platforms. The Biospecimen Navigator coordinates efforts of biospecimen management, processing and process integration with individual research labs, departmental biobanks, and the Cellular and Translational Research Core (CTRC). Additionally, the Biospecimen Navigator is the outward facing resource to the global OpenSpecimen community. The position also works with the BMIC Director of Operations, Project Manager and Customer Support Analyst to manage the processes, support and application integration. She/he will support the implementation of research protocols by synchronizing data and information across REDCap and OpenSpecimen and other Clinical Trial Management Systems (CTMS) solutions as needed.
The Biospecimen Navigator will orchestrate meetings with Principal Investigators (PIs) and other key research staff to identify the level of support needed and creates timelines and manages protocol start-up logistics including facilitating early discussions among investigators, research teams to ensure processes are mutually understood and acceptable to all.

• Ensure accurate discovery, capture and storage of project and specimen metadata
• Manage specimen metadata discrepancies and ensure resolution
• Migrate Investigator labs to OpenSpecimen workflows through entire project life-cycles.
• Implement protocols based on best practices for human subjects research and biospecimen management
• Implement standardized processes for participant registration
• Process management for integration with research labs in coordination with CCTS procedures
• Oversee QA/QI for OpenSpecimen integrations and testing
• Establish procedures and specifications affecting management protocols and oversee the development of Biospecimen Management SOPs

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). At least 5 years of experience in applications systems analysis or in a related area required. Must have a working knowledge of relational databases and client-server concepts.

• BA/BS in life sciences, medical technology or related field, MS/MHA.
• 5-7 years experience in life sciences or medically related field, including clinical development, biospecimen lifecycle management or clinical laboratory analysis.
• Very high attention to detail and excellent multi-tasking skills.
• Understanding of transaction-based inventory and data management systems as well as clinical trial processes.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of team.
• Experience with OpenSpecimen
• Project Management experience
