Job Description

This is a full-time, tenure-track, 10 month-per-year classroom teaching assignment in Computer Science and Information Systems courses. The position will be in the Computer Science and Information System (CS/IS) department with concentration in Computer Science. The current teaching load is 15 hours per week. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for curriculum development, planning, and course outline revisions.

Members of the full-time faculty will hold a minimum of five office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as is necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development, and campus committees will be expected. The assignment may include evening and/or Saturday classes, as well as classes scheduled locally but off the main campus (e.g. Garfield Campus, area high schools, or local businesses). Assigned courses will be delivered in traditional, online, and/or hybrid format. This position reports to the Division Chair of Business.

Examples of Duties
Determine course objectives and organize materials toward those objectives.

Evaluate and select knowledge and skill areas to be offered and/or required of students.

Provide supervision of students in various CS/IS programs and courses and evaluate students' progress in those courses.

Share and maintain a body of knowledge, skills and experiences through examples, demonstrations, lectures, and discussions.

Work to achieve the college's Institutional, Program, and Student Learning Outcomes in support of the Glendale Community College's mission statement.

Coordinate instructional programs with other members of the division and assist in the development and implementation of curriculum, policies, and procedures of the program.

Instruct students on the safe and proper use of equipment.

Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.

Observe all deadlines for maintaining and submitting mandatory records, such as attendance, census, drops, and grades, and use GCC's web-based systems to submit/post.

Use course management software to make course content available to students.

Assist in the development and implementation and revisions of curriculum, policies, and procedures for the Business Division.

Participate in campus governance, staff development, monthly division meetings and professional activities (e.g. committees, professional organizations, leadership positions, etc.) in order to maintain currency in the teaching field.

Maintain regular posted office hours and be accessible to students outside the classroom.

Advise and encourage students as appropriate.
