Job-Specific Responsibilities

The Senior Business Systems Analyst will report to an Associate Director within Harvard Business School’s Executive Education Information Technology (EEIT). This position is part of a team that supports all the technology used to run Executive Education’s programs: external website, Marketing Cloud for campaigns and inquiries, Salesforce for Customer Relationship Manager and Student Information System, Financial Force for invoice and payments, Learning Management System, StarRez hotel system and custom applications.

This candidate will focus on four areas. First, they will support the Learning Management System (LMS) built in Salesforce’s Community Cloud. Secondly, they will work with a number of ExEd departments on Salesforce Sales Cloud enhancements and maintenance. As well as assisting with the routine Salesforce releases. Their third focus will be assisting in investigating and rolling out new products. Lastly, this person will work with ExEd and HBS IT on data cleanup initiatives.

This position works directly with internal Executive Education staff, primary the Program Delivery, Guest Services, Admissions and Finance departments, to determine technology business needs and communicate project progress. Strong listening skills are critical to comprehend the fundamental business needs. Previous technology experience is essential in creatively evaluating the available technology tools and business process options to arrive at a solution to meet the business’ need. This candidate will work closely with HBS IT and outside vendors to clarify any questions around business requirements, review custom development, evaluate data migration, coordinate testing, identify and mitigate risks, assist with documentation and training.



Typical Core Duties

Work at a high level within a team on most phases of service analysis and consider the business implications of technology applications to the current and future business environment
Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into systems requirements and scoping
Contribute to the definition of systems requirements, conduct gap analysis, and identify feasible alternative solutions that meet defined business objectives
Perform user needs analysis, product evaluation, selection, customization, testing, implementation, and support
Participate in the development of plans and policies for a unit/school
Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies and Code of Conduct

Basic Qualifications

Minimum of two years' post-secondary education and/or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications

Significant executive education or higher education, consulting or related professional services experience strongly preferred. Requires strong business acumen (particularly analytics), outstanding communication and organization skills, and a mindset of learning and collaboration.

Preference will be given to candidates who have at least seven years of relevant technology/ project management/ vendor evaluation/ data cleanup experience. A strong candidate will show:
Essential skill is capturing business requirements and writing test cases. Salesforce Sales Cloud experience with testing and triage of issues.
Ability to translate customer needs into technical requirements, evaluate and improve business processes and understand and explain technological implications.
Strong analytic skills essential in developing, reading and communicating metrics. Ideal candidate will understand relational database fundamentals and demonstrate experience with SQL and reporting tools. Experience mining data, developing analysis and presenting findings.
Agile development practices, ideally Scrum Master Certification.
Ability to work within a team-centric, fast paced work environment and able to multi-task, set priorities, work independently and proactively with limited direction, solve complex problems and work effectively under the pressures of multiple competing deadlines.
Excellent communication, in a variety of method, is essential in keeping the stakeholders well informed as well as the internal and wider team. Strong customer service experience including documentation and training skills are essential.
