Job Description


The person in this position will provide an emphasis on administration and leadership for graduate programs in Higher Education Administration (HIED) for the College of Education. The faculty member will provide support for master's, doctoral, and certificate students in the program. In addition, the faculty member will maintain a scholarly research agenda and provide service to the program, school, college, university, and the profession. The successful applicant should be a scholar-practitioner, with an employment record that suggests both an interest in and empathy for the administration aspects of the study of higher education, such as budgeting, finance, and personnel.


The faculty member will be expected to teach master's and doctoral level courses in Higher Education Administration. Furthermore, the faculty member will provide committee leadership (including serving as chair) for students in the program as well as service on other graduate students committees in the college and across the university.

In the area of research, the faculty member will be expected to maintain an active publication agenda to include publications such as peer reviewed journal articles, books, book chapters, and/or presentations at conference venues related to higher education administration.

Service expectations include but are not limited to participation on faculty governance committees; coordination with resource offices involving distance learning, student affairs, and college/university administration; and active collaboration with stakeholders across the state of Wyoming.

Assistant professors shall hold the terminal qualification in their discipline (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) and shall have demonstrated ability, through appropriate experience, to perform the functions of the position they are to hold.

Earned doctorate in Higher Education Administration or related education field, completion by date of hire
Experience in higher education as a faculty member, senior professional staff, or administrator
Experience and/or interest in distance teaching
Potential for scholarly writing and research
Evidence of ability to work well with others
Interest in working with graduate students on research projects


Teaching experience in higher education
Evidence of effective teaching
Evidence of strong advocacy for adult learners including an understanding of related theory and concepts
Experience in working with distance learners and distance program design
Experience working with diverse populations, including Native American-serving and Land Grant institutions
