Job Description

Labouré College is a small, highly diverse, career-oriented, non-residential institution of higher education located in Milton, Massachusetts, less than five miles from the center of Boston. With a focus on preparing adults for careers in healthcare, Labouré offers degrees in Nursing, Radiation Technology, and Health Science. It also offers certificates in Medical Coding, Clinical Documentation and Improvement, and Neurodiagnostic Technology, including Intraoperative Neuromonitoring. To support students in these programs, the Division of Arts and Sciences provides courses from a broad array of disciplines, including the Natural Sciences, Philosophy, Religion, Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, and the Social and Behavioral Sciences. Many of our courses are taught from a multi-disciplinary perspective, offering students an array of opportunities for critical and creative thinking.

To complement current faculty members, the Division of Arts and Sciences is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor of English to teach courses in English Composition, Literature and Humanities themed interdisciplinary courses. The person selected for this position will also be expected to coordinate our Interdisciplinary Writing Program (IWP) and Writing Support Services (WSS). We are looking for a colleague who will contribute to the development of a vibrant, robust Art and Science curriculum through inspired teaching and visionary leadership; collaborate with other faculty on the implementation of evidence-based practices in writing across the disciplines; participate in a Faculty Learning Community (FLC) devoted to interdisciplinary teaching and learning; collaborate with the Division Chair on program-level assessment; and supervise a team of writing coaches tasked with supporting students who struggle with writing.

The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:

A terminal degree in English Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, or closely related field;
Significant knowledge and experience with implementing evidence-based pedagogical practices in interdisciplinary writing;
Knowledge of and experience with students seeking degrees in the health sciences;
Knowledge of and experience with diverse student populations, in particular, first-generation students, students of color and students with ESL;
Knowledge and experience with online learning;
Knowledge and experience with portfolio assessment and program level assessment;
Prior college-level teaching experience;
Ability to teach courses in other Humanities fields, in particular, Philosophy and History;
Ability to teach interdisciplinary courses;
A passion for creative program and curriculum development; and
A supportive attitude toward the mission of Labouré College; a small, private, historically Catholic institution devoted to social justice.
Responsibilities: This is a 12-month position that carries a 27-credit per year teaching load with additional compensation for administering the Interdisciplinary Writing Program and Writing Support Services (IWP/WSS). All courses offered in the A&S Division are taught in either a hybrid or fully online format. In addition to teaching, faculty at Laboure College are expected to service on college-wide and division-level committees and work groups; participate in curriculum development activities; and engage in scholarly development activities.

Rank and Salary: Based on the successful applicant's qualifications, the appointment will be at either the rank of assistant or associate professor. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
