This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. : We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee with interest in solving some of the United States' most challenging national security needs! You could be the postdoctoral appointee to support development of multi-scale, multi-physics computational modeling capabilities! You will use your expertise and research interest in multiphase or reacting flow simulations and/or thermal mechanical modeling with diverse materials classes such as brittle materials, polymer encapsulants and adhesives are encouraged to apply. Application of reduced order modeling and machine learning methods in these modeling areas is a feature of some funded research. Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to: + Develop and run multi-physics analysis tools related to finite element methods (FEM) + Collaborate on multi-disciplinary teams, and with partner institutions from national labs, academia, and industry + Communicate results in scientific conferences, journal publications, and internal/external workshops

Required:
+ PhD, conferred within the last 5 years in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering, computer, or physical science field – PhD required to start + Experience with computational simulation tools and processes + Ability to obtain a DOE L security clearance

Desired:
+ Experience with geometry modeling and meshing tools (SolidWorks, ANSYS, CUBIT, etc.) + Experience with coupled multi-physics FEM software (ANSYS, COMSOL, etc.) + Experience with scripting languages for pre- and post-processing and simulation code customization + Experience developing successful research proposals + Strong teaming skills and an ability to interact with colleagues with diverse technical backgrounds ·
