Alabama A&M University (AAMU), an 1890 Land-Grant institution located in the high-tech center of Huntsville in northern Alabama, invites applications for the positions listed below. Situated in the northeast quadrant of the city of 200,000, the hillside campus is just four miles away from downtown Huntsville. AAMU offers its 6,100-student population a wide range of course offerings under the College of Agriculture, Life and Natural Sciences; College of Business and Public Affairs; College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences and College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Science. The School of Graduate Studies serves about 1,400 and offers doctoral degree programs in Applied Physics, Food Science, Plant/Soil Science and Reading/Literacy.


Directs, provides leadership, and oversees all coaching duties for an interscholastic Baseball Program operating under NCAA Division I operating bylaws and regulations. Directs and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and training for athletic competition, and oversees the planning and fiscal management of program activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Organizes, prepares, and conducts individual and team practices, training and competition.
Recruits student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations through scouting, attending tournaments, and home visits.
Directs all aspects, areas and components of sports team (i.e.; defense, offense, or various individual positions).
Coordinates all strategic aspects of the specific sports program.
Represents sports program to various institutional programs and externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the general public.
Manages daily operations of the athletic program; directs, supervises, and coordinates all administrative facets.
Oversees all aspects of the financial operation of the athletic program.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):

Bachelor's degree
At least four (4) years of experience that can be demonstrated to be applicable to the duties listed in the job description.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program
Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques
Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes in area of specialty
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
