We seek to improve the quality of life by developing intellectually curious and socially conscious minds, creating collaborative solutions to societal problems, and promoting an inclusive and innovative community of service for the common good. Our graduate and undergraduate programs are highly ranked and have a strong reputation for excellence. In support of the vision and mission of the College of Engineering, we are raising our profile in online and professional education to enhance participation and broaden access to the best scientific and technical education from the University. This online (credit and non-credit) and professional education (non-credit) activity will unlock more learning opportunities for the U-M community, organizations, and learners around the world by delivering an innovative, engaging portfolio that can enhance our understanding of the world around us, provide us with more and better opportunities, and improve our quality of life.

We are currently expanding our staffing capacity for this activity and are looking for a Senior Instructional Designer to join the team. This position will contribute to our vision of expanding educational offerings through the development of high quality, pedagogically sound, immersive, and experiential courses offered through Michigan Engineering. The Senior Instructional Designer will lead the course development process, work collaboratively with faculty subject matter experts to provide learning design and development services for new courses, support the revision and delivery of existing courses, and propose solutions for complex challenges in online, face-to-face, and blended learning environments. This person will play a key role in supporting faculty and course teams to incorporate instructional design theory, teaching and learning pedagogy, and best practices in online education through course design and delivery. The role is an on-campus position, primarily during standard business hours, but may require limited evening and weekend hours depending on unit needs.

The ideal candidate for this position will have worked in a multidisciplinary team environment, have advanced experience in instructional design in higher education, partnered with faculty to provide learning design support, integrated media and open educational resources into courses, designed and modified courses to align with accessibility standards, has demonstrated experience with the exploration and application and technology for teaching and learning, and a desire to explore how technology and design practices can be used to transform education. This position will work within a fast-paced environment to apply instructional design theories and practice for non-credit courses, certificates, and online degree programs, blended learning experiences, and other digital education environments that are aimed at unlocking new educational opportunities and enabling personalized, engaged, and lifelong learning for the U-M community and learners around the world.
