Job Summary/Basic Function:
Seeking a technician to assist with laboratory and clinical procedures for studies in the autoimmune diseases Sjögren's syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, and multiple sclerosis. Duties include techniques related to the genetic and genomic field including but not limited to DNA and RNA extractions, processing of patient blood samples, maintenance of sample inventory, cell culture, ELISA, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, data analysis, among others. The individual will perform lab maintenance duties, which would include stocking laboratory supplies, preparing of buffers, media, pipette tip boxes, and maintaining lab records. The individual will also communicate data by written reports and oral power point presentations. Moreover, this technician will be assisting in minor surgical procedures and biological sample collection from human study participants. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree typically in one of the biological sciences or equivalent years of professional, paid, relevant laboratory experience. Should be familiar with lab techniques and have a basic understanding of biological research principles. The candidate must be capable of working independently and as part of a team and can adapt to new research technologies. The candidate must be able to work flexible hours that are dependent on the experimental design and availability of patient specimens. In addition, this person will interact with patients requiring excellent verbal communication skills as well as the willingness to learn and follow instructions of the clinician(s) they are assisting in the research clinic. The candidate should also have strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Power Point) and excellent written communications skills.

Minimum Degree Required:
Bachelors Degree

Work Hours: Typically Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm.

Preferred Qualifications:
BS in Genetics and/or Molecular Biology, or related field is preferred. Previous experience with any of the following is also preferred but not required: genotyping, next-generation sequencing, cell culture, ELISA, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, and data analyses.

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
