Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Imaging Core is looking for a full-time (40 hr/wk) person to assist with the intake and preparation of biological samples for microscopic analysis using a variety of paraffin, cryo, and/or resin fixation, embedding, and sectioning techniques. This individual will also assist with special staining and protocol design, as well as routine maintenance and upkeep on histology and staining equipment. Further training on various microscopes and other instruments and techniques may be included based on workload and interest. Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience. Should be familiar with basic laboratory techniques. Excellent written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, and an ability to work independently are required.

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Work Hours: Typical hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.

Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of at least one (1) college-level biological science or chemistry laboratory course preferred. At least one (1) year of histology or other related laboratory experience is highly desired, and a BA/BS degree in any of the biological sciences or chemistry is preferred. Experience with/knowledge of preparatory methods and techniques for light and/or electron microscopy (including but not limited to specimen fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining) are also desired.

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
