Job Description

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Research Manager, this position assists with recruiting, screening and enrolling prospective study participants; draws blood and collects other biospecimens; collects and enters data; reviews and extracts data; and follows-up with participants. Mails questionnaires, tracks enrollment, creates and maintains files, and assists with reports.


Explains procedures and benefits of new study to prospective study participants.
Assesses prospective participants eligibility for participation via questionnaires and medical history.
Draws blood from research subjects through venipuncture. Collects biospecimens, as needed.
Monitors participants progress in the study and ensures compliance.
Reviews questionnaires for completion and accuracy.
Reviews medical records and abstracts relevant information for the study.
Enters participants relevant information into a database and codes it to protect identities.
Contacts participants to learn recovery and health outcome status.
Schedules follow-up appointments, as necessary.
Ensures reminder communication is provided to participants.
Conducts literature reviews of relevant publications.
Assists in the analysis and preparation of final study publications and presentations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.


EDUCATION: RN, current Tennessee nursing license (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of clinical experience or experience assisting with human clinical research studies. One (1) year of experience drawing blood and/or placing IVs on a regular basis.


Skilled in venipuncture (obtaining blood samples from participants).
Skill using Microsoft software including Word and especially Excel to extract clinical data from electronic medical records.
Ability to compile information into report form and collaborate on the production of abstracts and manuscripts.
Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills. Ability to provide keen attention to details, and follow-through with delegated tasks.
Knowledge of IRB, research confidentiality and human-subjects protection, and Informed Consent processes.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interview and interact with sensitivity and social/cultural competence with people of a wide range of ages and cultures.
Ability to coordinate, administer, and follow up on research appointments.


WORK SCHEDULE: This position may be occasionally required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.
