Athens Technical College in Athens, Georgia seeks an Adjunct Instructor to teach Fire Science. The Adjunct Instructor under general supervision prepares lesson plans and teaches classroom instruction for credit courses in the School of Public Safety and Security’s Fire Science Degree and Diploma program. The Fire Science Adjunct Instructor will report to the Dean of the Life Sciences and Public Services Division.

Responsibilities include:

Instruction for both lecture and laboratory activities and may involve Internet courses; additional duties include advising and mentoring students, textbook selection, updating curriculum, and developing instructional materials; possess the ability to teach all phases of the Fire Science curriculum; may also be required to teach other Public Safety courses

***To meet the needs of our students, the instructor will be required to teach courses during the day, evening, and weekend hours.

Skills/Requirements
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Fire Science Administration, Public Administration, Emergency Services Management, or closely related field. Five (5) or more years, within the last ten (10) of full-time, in field work experience as a Firefighter.

The following current and valid credentials in good standing are required and must be maintained during employment:

Certified Georgia Firefighter (NPQ Firefighter I and II)
NPQ Fire Instructor I
Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the Firefighter profession including the relationship to other professions in the public safety field
Experience must include the competencies, skills and knowledge levels the faculty will be expected to teach
Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communications and people skills
***A flexible work schedule is necessary, as classes may be taught during day, evening and Saturday periods.

Preferred Qualifications

All the Minimum Requirements plus:

Hazardous Materials Operations Level (technician or specialist preferred)
Live Fire 1403 Instructor Certification
NPQ Evaluator
Minimum 15 years of active duty in the fire service (7 within the last 10)
Minimum 5 years instructing or teaching experience
